乌鸦传媒 Writing Contest: 鈥淟et Your Voice Be Heard鈥�
In early 2020, 乌鸦传媒 President Dr. James Shaeffer challenged us to think about our purpose鈥攐ur reasons鈥攆or doing what we do at 乌鸦传媒. According to Dr. Shaeffer, who retired in 2025, his 鈥淵ES!! is inclusive at 乌鸦传媒 because we are open to all, and our student body represents the diversity of the Eastern Shore.听 YES!! is inclusive in the programs we offer for transfer students, short-term workforce programs, and full degrees.听 We are also inclusive in the span of ages we serve.听 Finally, we strive for inclusivity in serving the needs of the community throughout Your Eastern Shore.鈥�
Are you ready to share your unique perspective and creativity regarding our campus culture? Enter the听乌鸦传媒 Writing Contest听and showcase your talent in poetry, short fiction, or essay writing!
This inaugural contest, on behalf of our former president Dr. James Shaeffer and his YES! Vision for 乌鸦传媒, invites you to reflect on identity, community, and personal growth at 乌鸦传媒. Choose one of the following prompts to craft a compelling piece:
1.听听听听听听Your YES! Belief Statement:听What is a belief that drives you forward? Write a poem, short story, or essay that embodies your听YES!鈥攜our personal philosophy, motivation, or guiding principle.
2.听听听听听A Lesson in Inclusivity:听Describe a moment on campus when you learned about inclusivity. How did this experience shape your perspective, challenge you, or inspire you to foster a more welcoming environment?
3.听听听听听Being an 乌鸦传媒 Student:听What does it truly mean to be a student at 乌鸦传媒? Explain in detail the values, experiences, and culture that define(d) or continues to define your journey at the college.
Submission Guidelines:
鈥⑻� Open to all current 乌鸦传媒 students
鈥⑻� ONE ENTRY听 per student
鈥⑻� Poetry (open and closed forms allowed): Up to two pages
鈥⑻� Short Stories & Essays: 750鈥�1,500 words
鈥⑻� Deadline: Extended April 24th

Winning entries will be featured on our college鈥檚 Facebook page and published in an upcoming
issue of the Shore First.听 Our top two winners will receive $250 each, or if there is one winner, $500. Winner(s) will be announced at commencement on May 14th.
